Bollard height and light output for paths

How lamp height changes spacing, light pools and glare on paths and driveways, and when tall bollards earn their place.

Three height classes and what they do

Low path lights tend to show nearby edges. Medium bollards cover more ground. Tall posts can help entrances, but they can also create glare if the source is exposed.

Height changes the spacing maths

A taller fitting can often be spaced further apart, but only if the beam spreads evenly and the route does not include steps or tight bends.

Where tall bollards are the wrong answer

A narrow garden path beside seating or windows can feel over-lit with tall bollards. Use lower, shielded fittings where comfort matters as much as coverage.
